When the Past Meets the Present
By Monica Pughsley
I prayed with a young lady at church today, a teenager that was dealing a generational curse of bitterness. I also have needed prayer for this.
Ironically, her parents are dealing with the same thing. After prayer this young lady's mother, bravely confessed to me that she knows she
needs help and she realize where her daughter is at but she can't help her. She has so much bitterness build up that she is finding it hard to
break away from it.
Had I not been through this, had I not experienced exactly what they both are talking about---I wouldn't have understood the mother's view of
why. Why can't she help her child? Why? Well, it's DEFINITELY not because she doesn't love her. Pressure of life can be so real. Situations
and circumstances can cause you to bottle up many emotions that you 'thought' you may have let go and then one day you find yourself in a
place that you never imagine. A place of calling upon help---your soul cries out and it literally feels like a war from within. This war is true.
However, this war is not able to be fought like we as humans fight. This war is a Spiritual War. In order to win...you must call upon the name
of God who has created you and ask Him for the weapons to use in fighting this war. He will point you to the right people to connect with....
This young lady blessed me so. She cried, cried, and cried. We prayed, talked, and cried. Then, one of the elders of the church said, "Now,
baby I need you to pray for me. Pray that everything I poured out be replenished." This young lady, SAT UP, then STOOD UP, WIPED HER
EYES...and called upon the name of the Lord on our behalf. Instantly, she put aside what had her crying before and prayed that God will give
us the strength to continue to walk out this life. She cast down the imagination of suicidal thoughts, thoughts of giving up, thoughts of wanting
to 'fit in' and ask that God will pour into us a 100 fold blessing to continue to go on.
Generation curses are things that you see that are not positive in your family that you know your grandparents went through, now your
parents are going through it, and you are saying...I refuse to go through the same thing. '''That's the thing this young lady is facing''' That's
the very thing that can keep you in a bondage mindset. Rather it's anger, poverty, abuse, molestation, adultery, fornication, bitterness,
obesity, lack of any sort---whatever. WHATEVER it is that is STOPPING you from doing the things that you want to do to live a wholesome
life. It's not easy. No one said it will be. After all, it's not things that you have done that you are fighting against. It's things that your ancestors
have done that you are warring off you and your generations to come. That's why you need God---because you were not there when they--
your ancestors lived, you don't even know what they had to fight off.
Thank God for the generation blessings. These are those things that your ancestors have stored up for your inheritance. It can be wealth in
the form of 'green back' money. However, it can be worth so much more through wealth with inheriting their level of faith, love, desire of
peace, genes, freedom, wisdom, prayer warrior---the list goes on. I have personally inherited a level of faith that I am coming to know each
day. A level of love. A level of prayer warrior. A level of a desire to help others. I have a responsibility to work in it....connecting myself with
people that are going to help me understand the 'gift' that God has granted to be passed down to me. Passed THROUGH me...so that it can
be passed through...my next generation.
I thank God for the next generation. I thank God for this young lady because she has shown me that I MUST keep going. It's passing the
baton. I have to keep moving in the lane that God has given me to race in. I hope you are doing the same.
It's not about us...it's the next generation.
